National Disability Insurance Scheme (or NDIS) helps people with a disability, their families and carers. If you live with disability, NDIS may be able to pay for the reasonable and necessary supports you need.
What type of supports can I get through NDIS?
NDIS will pay for supports related to your disability to help you in your daily life.
These supports might include:
- equipment such as a wheelchair or a communication device
- a support worker to help you access community services and activities
- health services like physiotherapy that are related to your disability
- a support worker to help with your personal care
- transport to and from community activities and work.
How do I get help from NDIS?
- You must have a disability that is likely to be permanent.
- Your disability must substantially reduce your ability to do everyday things for yourself or participate in the community.
- You must be under 65 years old on the date the access request is made.
Who manages NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Agency (the Agency) manages NDIS.
The Agency decides who can access NDIS and what supports a participant should have.
How do I access NDIS or get a plan?
The Agency works closely with participants, their families and carers to create an individualised package of supports, known as a Plan. The Agency has created Local Area Coordinators (LACs) to:
- help a person to access NDIS
- help participants develop and implement their plan
- review plans to ensure participants are receiving the right supports.
Who are the Local Area Coordinators (LACs) in Tasmania?
